About the Main Beach-Tedder Avenue Association
The Main Beach-Tedder Avenue Association was formed in December 2006 by a group of concerned local business operators.
Objectives
- To improve and maintain the physical character and community life of Main Beach
- To work proactively with the Gold Coast City Council and other authorities for the betterment of Main Beach and the preservation of our lifestyle
- To promote awareness of Main Beach to the wider community
- To achieve our goals by positive action and community consultation with local stakeholders
Our successes
Working with Gold Coast City Council and the local council we have:
- Introduced and installed a new garden plan for Tedder Avenue - Out with the old as old fashioned, high-maintenance boxy hedges and struggling trees were replaced with new plantings of evergreen magnolia and frangipanni, softer and colourful under-plantings, and the removal of several trees that were beyond their use-by date. The plan was to create a lush sub-tropical water-wise environment that will provide shade and a palette of green, red and white.
- Initiated a lighting strategy to enhance and the new plantings
- Devised a Christmas light strategy to brighten our street for the Festive Season

- Worked with Council to introduce art works to the street
- Developed links on our web sites to key locations such as surf-cam, weather reports, local news
- Introduced butt bins to cater for smokers on the street, regularly report to GCCC for minor street maintenance issues such as lighting, signage etc
- Worked with GCCC to re-surface the roads
- We are working further with GCCC to implement a road surface for Tedder Avenue that is uniquely Main Beach to enhance our village atmosphere
- We are working with GCCC to introduce new footpaths to further enhance our village atmosphere
- The Main Beach-Tedder Avenue Association is a member of Gold Coast Tourism and is dedicated to encouraging the free and independent tourist to visit and shop in our community
- Our Association has held regular meetings with local traders, highlighted by guest speakers
- Implemented regular newsletters to our members and the wider community
